Can I SAFELY make a HD partition for my images and music files?
gordios_thomas_icxc asked:
I have Partition Magic 8.0 which has done wonders for cleaning up the mess that COMPAQ installs on the D drive. I now have the factory backup discs, so I got rid of the D drive.
My PC is running in top shape.
As a songwriter and singer, I create many .wav (lossless) and .mp3 files (320 Kbps).
I also collect digital images from all over the world and through camera use.
I still have 87% free space on a 110 GB HD.
I’m wondering:
1. Can I simply create a new partition and use it as the default storage for my music and image files, as well as a location where I can relocate my current files (about 8 GB total)?
2. Should I expect further improvement in my C: drive when I do this?
3. Is it reasonably safe?
4. I have a DVD rewriter. Would it be better to use that?
Thanks for your time and input.

Right click on my computer and go to manage. Then go to disk management. From here you can make a partition without loosing any data. Just choose “make a partition with the unused space” Then you can move everything over to this partition after it is made. I would also suggest you get a backup HD to also put all those songs and pics on. HD’s do die over time. always keep important stuff on at least two media’s.
1. yes, you can create a new partition with Partition Magic, or if you can try it with Partition Expert
2. depend on use… it will be a little improvement on performances… it will be better if you defrag it, after making changes in the hard drive.
3. changing partition sizes or wharever is not safe there’s a minium posibility of deleting everything in most cases that happen only when an error occured.
4. it a lot better having a backup of your data.
