Will this Imac Computer work for me or is it overkill?

anne j asked:

Apple Imac Options:

24 inch Model
2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme
2 Gig DDR2 SDRAM Memory
500 Gig ATA Hard Drive

I will use it to surf the internet, listen to music (2,000 songs), and create digital picture albums. You can get the Imac with a 2.4 Ghz process, 320 Gig Hard Drive and 1 GB of memory. Any help is appreciated.

Overkill!!! I could spec out a DIY PC that would fit your needs and cost you under $1k with OS and LCD in?

I would go with the lesser one for what your using it for. you will be lucky if you ever use 100 GB of your HD and you don’t need much RAM for what you want either or processing speed though 2.4 and 2.8 are pretty close anyway.

Definitely overkill, I would suggest sticking to a macbook or the smaller iMac. Stay away from mac mini and the real overkill computers like the Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro

I agree. It’s total overkill for what you’re doing. Seriously, I could do what you’re doing from my PDA.

You’d be paying waay too much for what you’re going to be using it for. I’d suggest downgrading the processor to and intel core 2 duo, hard drive down to around 200GB, and i think that should do it fro your needs.
That 500GB HD is WWWAAAYYY too much, and the processor’s usage would hardly ever get up past 45%.
